role summary

You will be the Chair of National Highways Board.
National Highways looks after England’s motorways and big roads.
You lead the Board and check that the plans and goals are done well.
You help make decisions on safety, money, and new technology.
You work closely with the government and other important groups.

key tasks

Lead and guide the Board to make good decisions.
Support and check the work of the Executive team.
Help solve problems and manage road safety and improvements.
Build good relationships with government and partners.
Make sure the Board acts with honesty and fairness.

skills and experience

Experience leading boards or similar groups.
Good judgment and ability to make strong decisions.
Know how to manage big projects and money.
Good communication and ability to work with many people.
Understand how to lead with fairness and respect.

£ pay and hours

You will work up to two days each week.
The first contract is for three years.
Start in Spring 2027 after checks and clearance.

location and workplace

You can work from different places.
You will travel to London and other National Highways offices.
