Dee Conservancy Student Placement

Job Description

Gain a unique behind-the-scenes insight into the world of marine engineering and harbour operations with this hands-on work experience opportunity on the Dee Estuary.

Working alongside the Dee Conservancy Harbour Master and Marine Engineer, you'll experience the challenges and rewards of maintaining a safe and operational waterway. Highlights of the placement include:

- Taking to the water to accompany a routine inspection of the Dee Conservancy's navigational aids and assisting with the recovery and repair of a navigation buoy.
- Supporting harbour operations by joining the Harbour Master in surveying vessels across the estuary as part of an ongoing programme to identify and remove derelict boats.
- Exploring the wider maritime industry through a visit to a local commercial port, offering an insight into modern port operations and logistics.
- Understanding environmental challenges by learning how climate change is affecting coastal areas and the measures being taken to protect and manage the shoreline.
- This short unpaid work experience placement offers an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in marine engineering, maritime operations, environmental management, or careers within the maritime sector, combining practical experience, technical learning and exposure to real-world projects.
